THE FASTEST CAR OR TRUCK
DOESN’T ALWAYS ADVANCE
In 2015, Joey Logano swept one entire round
of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup but was
eliminated in the Round of 8. This year, Martin
Truex Jr. won two of three races in the Round of
16 but was eliminated in the Round of 12.
Over in the NASCAR Camping World Truck
Series, William Byron won six races this season
but the rookie standout failed to reach the Truck
Series’ inaugural Championship 4 winner-take-all
race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Notice a trend here? The past two seasons have
proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that success
in one round of the Chase – or the season as a
whole – does not guarantee a spot in the Championship 4 in any of NASCAR’s three major series.
The bottom line: Unless a driver wins a race in a
given round, he or she can ill-afford to have one or
more poor finishes in that round.
